The Situational Awareness Unit’s (SAU) primary mission is to respond to, and provide timely reporting on, significant incidents directly or indirectly impacting California—such as terrorist attacks and emerging threats; to include significant events occurring both nationally and internationally.
The unit serves as a focal point for receiving and distributing information to State Threat Assessment Center (STAC) customers and partner agencies within the State Threat Assessment System. The information the SAU disseminates is intended to provide agency executives, partner agencies, and terrorism liaison officers throughout the state of California with information which may affect their area of responsibility.
In an effort to maintain on ongoing threat picture, the SAU continuously monitors all-source reporting to provide STAC customers with a snapshot of the most significant reporting published within the previous twenty-four hours and to prepare and deliver real-time alert notifications to partner agencies on events which may influence state or local security conditions.
