Levees - California has levees from the Oregon border to the Mexican border that are at risk for failure, resulting in the potential loss of life, injuries, infrastructure damage, agricultural damages, and economic losses. The websites listed below provide additional information related to levees:
Delta - The Sacramento/San Joaquin Delta includes levees that were constructed to dewater areas for agricultural purposes. When the levees were build they were not designed to provide flood protection to urbanized areas. Since early construction of levees in the Delta, these levees now provide a transport means for a significant amount of water to the southern part of the state and the Bay area. Floodplain - California has floodplains from the Oregon border to the Mexican border that are frequently areas of concern and can be damaged during disasters. Many of these floodplains contain natural habitat for a variety of native and protected species. These resource areas are subject to special considerations when a disaster occurs.
