State Employees
As an employee of the State of California, you may be eligible for many benefits.
NOTE: UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED, THE BENEFITS OUTLINED BELOW APPLY TO PERMANENT FULL-TIME EMPLOYEES.
Holidays - Full-time employees are entitled to holidays as defined in the applicable labor contract agreements or authorizing memoranda.
Alternate Work Schedules – We may offer alternate work schedules (4/10/40, 9/8/80, etc.) which are consistent with operational needs.
Sick Leave, Vacation and Annual Leave - Employees earn sick leave and vacation credits. As the employee's years of State service increase, the vacation allowance increases. Employees may also be eligible to participate in the annual leave program, which replaces traditional sick leave and vacation credits.
Bereavement Leave - Employees may receive up to 3 days of leave following the death of a family member or other person in the employee's household. (For rank-and-file employees, contract provisions limit such leave for deaths of extended family members to 3 days per year.)
Health Benefits - Choose from a variety of health benefit plans for you and your family. Visit CalPers for more information.
Dental Insurance - Employees and their eligible dependents can choose the dental plan right for them. Visit CalHR for more information.
Vision Care Insurance - Permanent employees working half-time or more are eligible for the State's Vision Program. Visit CalHR for more information.
Savings Plus Program - The Savings Plus Program offers a 401(k) Plan and a 457 Plan to eligible State of California employees. These plans allow you to build a retirement savings account using automatic payroll deductions that go into investments you select from the Saving Plus portfolio. Money from your paychek that you invest this way is not taxed until you eventually withdraw it, generally during retirement. Visit CalHR for more information.
FlexElect Program
The FlexElect program lets State employees set aside money in a reimbursement account to pay for certain expenses. FlexElect can help you increase your take home pay and decrease your taxable income. You specify the amount to be deducted from your paycheck, and the deductions occur before tax withholding, reducing tax liability. FlexElect offers reimbursement accounts for eligible medical and dependent day care expenses. Visit CalHR for more information
