The SMART Field Team training by Cal Poly on May 25, 2011 in Long Beach and June 20, 2011 in Hayward was a resounding success.  Twenty-three faculty and staff members from the California State University (CSU) system spent the day learning the SMART program and field assessment system, and received a certificate signed by the California State Hazard Mitigation Officer. The attendees included experts in engineering, geography, geology, geophysics, construction management, architectural engineering, civil engineering, homeland security, criminology, planning, and risk management, and represented a wide range of CSU campuses.  The teams are now ready to perform assessments on completed hazard mitigation projects to determine their effectiveness against future disasters.
